Abstract
Since the second half of the 1970s the formation of the avant-garde movement in China began, within the framework of which the development of performance took place on the territory of the country. In spite of the fact that the Chinese performance arose two decades later than the European one, Chinese performance artists are one of the most famous representatives of contemporary art in the world. The growing interest in the work of Chinese performers is largely due to the provocative nature of their performances directed against socio-political problems within the country. This work is focused on the analysis of the main historical stages in the development of performance in China since the second half of the 1970s to the 2010s.
This research paper includes introduction, the main part, consisting of 3 chapters, conclusion and illustrative application. The first chapter discusses early performances during the development of avant-garde art in China 1976-1989. The second chapter analyzes the work of Chinese performance artists during the heyday of commercial art in the 1990s. The third chapter is devoted to the study of the Chinese performance in the 21st century. In addition, it stands out current problems faced by performance artists in China.
The illustrative application includes photos of the analyzed performances.
