The pathogenic mechanisms of the development of metabolic acidosis, dysproteinemia, and endotoxicosis in the breeding cattle stock involve several pathologies. These include disproportions in protein to sugar ratios, the lack of Vitamin B groups, and the microelements iodine, cobalt and zinc. These pathologies are followed by imbalances of hematopoesis, poor thyroid function, and the decrease in general resistance across the breeding cattle population. In 25 % of the cattle, a decrease in the levels of albumin in the blood due to poor hepatic function was also detected. There was also an abnormality in micro metabolism with an increase in the levels of Medium Size Molecules (MSM), kethon's body and endotoxins.
An important predictor in the success of past partum period is the timing of placenta expulsion. If the afterbirth has been passed within 6 hours after parturition, uterine contraction and involution should be completed no later than 28.4±2.9 days. With the retention of the placenta 7-9 hours postpartum, uterine involution is delayed to 28.4±2.9 days. This serves as a basis for success on a subsequent pregnancy within 50-65 days post-parturition.
In certain geochemical territories of the Western Ukraine, 10-15.8 % of the breeding cattle stock suffered from post partum endometritis. Utilizing scanning electron microscopy to analyze uterine epithelium during the different stages of the estrus cycle, the following results were revealed. Structural changes in endomentrial cells vary greatly, and corresponded to the phase of the various stages of estrus cycle. A large number of cells of vascular origin were found in the uterine lumen from the time of parturition to the restoration of protective function of the endometrial cells. These cells, in conjunction with the epitheliocytes, form a morphologic substrate which provide for the local resistance of the tissue to postpartum uterine microflora.
Based on the results of this study, a complex of prophylactic measures are being recommended to the industry that are based specifically on the geochemical region.
