Kostanda I.O. Formation of interpretive tradition: genesis and development of ancient Chinese exegesis of traditional texts. The article is devoted to the analysis of the historical development and formation of Chinese exegesis, which is a traditional direction of philology in ancient China. Methodologically important in the study are the principles that codification fixed and preserved linguistic features which eventually became a literary norm, and the coverage of exegesis traditions is essential for the consideration and comprehensive analysis of codification processes in Wenyan and Baihua languages. The author of the article clearly demonstrates the relationship of interpretive traditions with codification systems, which determined not only the next form of implementation of the language norm, but also its further development and transition to another stage offunctioning.

Consideration of exegesis in the diachronic aspect involves analysis of the main concepts of codification in a certain historical period with a review of the origin of these concepts and their implementation in key scientific papers. The historical-comparative format of the research proposed in the article highlights the fact that the explanatory tradition, on the one hand, depended on the influence of social and cultural factors influencing the change of codification doctrines, and, on the other hand, tried to preserve and show the succession ofcodification processes. This combination of two opposite directions led to the formal preservation of the structural construction of research papers, the use of traditional means of describing language material, the emergence of a large number of references to ancient books, so even when presenting revolutionary hypotheses, the concept of codification had a traditional form, the reasoning was built on quotes from the classics of this sphere. It has been proven that the explanatory tradition begins with the exegesis of Confucian canons and becomes the beginning for lexical, syntactic, stylistic codification of the Chinese language, so most explanatory literature is based on Confucian ideology: China's first explanatory dictionaries were created primarily to interpret the content of Confucian canons, and research works devoted to the interpretation of Confucian canons make up the vast majority of all explanatory literature. The results obtained due to the historical comparative approach give grounds to assert that the Confucian doctrine is leading in the introduction of codification processes of the Chinese language.

Key words: codification, exegesis, explanatory dictionary, language standardization, methods of interpretation.
