Концепції застосування або погрози застосування ядерної зброї з боку Російської Федерації. Доктринальне визначення ядерного стримування і ядерного шантажу, що став центральним елементом російської гібридної війни. Критерії застосування ядерної зброї.

Важливим елементом російської безпекової політики є концепція ядерної «ескалації заради деескалації». Вона побудована на шантажі можливістю першого ядерного удару з боку РФ для досягнення перемоги в гібридній або звичайній війні. Ця концепція створює «ядерний безлад». Водночас РФ не готова до відвертої руйнації глобального ядерного порядку та приховує свої плани щодо використання ядерної зброї за офіційними доктринами, що в загальних рисах відповідають усталеним міжнародним нормам.
На початку широкомасштабного воєнного вторгнення в Україну ядерний шантаж надав РФ певні тактичні переваги. Він дозволив РФ вплинути на країни НАТО, унеможливлюючи їх безпосередню участь у війні на боці України. Успіх шантажу такого роду пов'язаний із тим, що він перебуває у «сірій» зоні глобального ядерного порядку, який припускає використання ядерної зброї ядерною країною у війні з неядерною, якщо на боці останньої воює інша ядерна країна. Водночас ядерний шантаж РФ провалився у спробах унеможливити надання Україні суттєвої міжнародної допомоги, включно із постачанням озброєнь і військової техніки, здатних кардинально змінити перебіг звичайної війни на користь України. Слабким місцем російського ядерного шантажу, наступального за спрямованістю, виявилася відсутність конкретного воєнного сенсу застосування ядерної зброї. Зухвалу погрозу її демонстративного застосування було сприйнято у світі як блеф.
Для підтримання дієвості ядерного шантажу РФ намагається створити штучні критерії, які легітимізують використання ядерної зброї. Зокрема, на початковому етапі широкомасштабного воєнного нападу РФ невдало намагалася переконати світ у можливості використання Україною хімічної та біологічної зброї. Наразі РФ намагається створити штучний критерій захисту власної території, до якої «зарахує» після «референдумів» тимчасово окуповані українські території.
У війні РФ проти України виявилися глобальна деструктивність російської концепції ядерної «ескалації заради деескалації», заснованої на ядерному шантажі. Проблема вимагатиме міжнародного вирішення в межах розбудови повоєнної безпекової архітектури.
