The thesis highlights the significance of general aesthetic culture and the place it occupies in the process of students' professional training in classical universities. The author develops and scientifically substantiates the system of pedagogical conditions which provides for the necessary level of students' general aesthetic culture in classical universities. The issue of students' professional training is viewed as the search for possibilities to adjust and harmonise the behaviour of students' personality in classical universities by general aesthetic culture. The problem in question has been and psychological literature, as well as in practical activity of higher pedagogical establishments. The contents of the special course “Aesthetic Culture of an Educational Specialist” for students of classical universities have been developed and substantiated. It has been proved that the introduction of the specialised course into the educational process of classical university increases the efficiency of students' level of aesthetic culture. It has been clarified that the issue of general aesthetic culture is so complex and comprehensive, that it demands further study for defining certain notions and their nuances as well as searching for certain means of influencing students to help them in achieving high results in professional activity and harmonisation with social and natural environment.
