On the way to nursing improvement in Ukraine

ON THE WAY TO NURSING IMPROVEMENT IN UKRAINE

Social, cultural, commercial and technological fluctuations are occurring all over the world and necessitate to alterations in people's behavior and the necessity to adapt to these changes even in the teaching process due to Covid-19 pandemic. The educational process is performed according to innovations and information technologies, mechanisms and procedures approved by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The Project “Strategy for the Development of Higher Education in Ukraine for 2021-2031” was compiled and submitted for public discussion as a result of the completion of the National Strategy for the Development of Education in Ukraine in 2021 (Decree of the President of Ukraine dated June 25, 2013 No 344/2013) [4] and an increased global cooperation and mobility, market integration and advances in information technologies.

Currently, training process of nursing students is unfeasible without using information technologies due to Covid-19 pandemic. IT play an important role in competence formation of future mid-level medical professionals including communication. According to the available literature there are three Nursing Documentation (ND) methods: a) paper-based b) electronic c) and a combination of both these methods [2]. As one can suggest that electronic documentation in the health care is becoming more and more prevalent due to their advantages.

It is known that the reality of academic training for nursing professionals has changed fundamentally in recent decades due to reforms in Health Care System and Covid-19 pandemic. It means that nurses play an important role in improving health standards. Hence, they need to be updated about theoretical and practical knowledge in this field [1]. health medical sick nurse

Supporting the idea that the Degree in Nursing is aimed at teaching professionals in general nursing with scientific and human preparation and sufficient development to assess, identify, implement and evaluate health needs and care for the healthy and the sick by training families and community [3]. It means that nursing education is a dynamic process of divulging knowledge and competences and assisting in the facilitation of student learning. An inevitable requirement of nurses' training is to gain insight, understanding and ability through reinforcement, practice, and experience. Nursing professionals should gain knowledge and practical experience and be ready to learn throughout life. Nowadays, continuous professional development is the most important and advisable components in nursing education. As treatment protocols are being updated and technology is developing rapidly, knowledge in nursing profession should be modernized as quickly as possible.

In nursing education new disciplines are constantly incorporated into curriculum as: management, leadership and economics, which were considered optional several years ago. It is obviously that a modern nurse must position herself as a visionary specialist who is able to set goals, make wise plans for future, achieve results and understand own role in the changeable world. Moreover, a nurse of the 21st century must be fully aware about current legislation on health care and regulations governing the activities of health care institutions; regulations on training, retraining and certification of medical workers; the procedure for maintaining accounting and reporting documentation, methods of processing medical statistical information; modern methods of diagnosis, medical care in emergencies; modern sources of medical information, methods of its analysis and generalization.

A new tendency in the Ukrainian nursing is observed: mid-level health workers have started to work independently, expending their professional functions. Thus, nurses with Bachelor and Master degree can perform functions of the administrator, the head of the department at any healthcare setting or a teacher at any nursing higher educational institution. A nurse with Ph.D. degree has the right to hold scientific, research or scientific and pedagogical positions in higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, research institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and other establishments. The modern system of nurses' professional education in Ukraine should provide the differentiated training of nursing personnel that depends on the needs of the population and market services and ensure appropriate qualifications and competencies in solving professional issues. Moreover, currently it is very urgent to improve nurses' postgraduate education with emphasis on practice, which is given much attention in nursing training all over the world.

Next progressive step in the development of nursing profession was the establishment of the Center for Nursing Development of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in 2019, the key task of which is the further upgrading of the profession by monitoring educational standards and improvement of professional norms, supporting nurses' leadership and increasing the status of the profession in society due to Covid-19 pandemic. However, it should be noted that licensing has not been introduced in nursing profession yet.

Thus, a lot of advanced ideas have been implemented into nursing recently. But more should be done in future especially drafts of documents in the field of nursing profession are still under development.
