Образний компонент концепту стійкість: корпусне дослідження американського дискурсу

Анотація

Стаття присвячена дослідженню соціально значущого концепту «стійкість» у свідомості американської спільноти. СТІЙКІСТЬ розуміється як ментальне динамічне утворення-інформація, вербальне ім'я якого репрезентує колективну емпіричну єдність індивідуальних контактів із матеріальним світом, описує ставлення до нього та фіксує прогрес спільноти.

Розвідка виконується крізь призму тришарової будови концепту, коли останній має поняттєвий, образний та ціннісний елементи. У рамках поточної публікації зосереджена увага на описі образного складника, який вивчається за методикою концептуальної метафори Лакоффа Дж. та Джонсона М. на матеріалі американського дискурсу, компактно зібраного у корпусну вибірку 150 контекстів (зі словом resilience як іменем концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ). Контексти вилучені з Корпусу сучасної англійської мови американського варіанту COCA. Походять із 77 наукових і публіцистичних джерел США.

Асоціативні образи СТІЙКОСТІ встановлюються за параметрами порядку концептуальної метафоризації Таценко Н. В.: дискретність, дименсіальність, спаціальність, перцептивність (у звичайному і розширеному форматах).

За результатами студій отримано 30 концептуальних метафор: стійкість є об'єкт власності, контролю або захисту; інструмент; потреба; навички; фізичне тіло; варіативний або комплексний об'єкт; деталь; дія; сила; місце; галузь; рухомий об'єкт; річ; вміст; вмістище; об'єкт взаємодії, сприйняття, аналізу або уяви; домовленість; об'єкт відчуття, шанування або показу; продукт; істота; машина; опонент.

Відсортовані за параметрами метафоризації, усі образи супроводжується кількома ілюстративними контекстами. Актуалізаторами образів у контекстах є семантично валентні суміжні і несуміжні колокації лексеми resilience (ім'я СТІЙКОСТІ) та інших слів. Вони ідентифікують ментальні асоціації, крізь призму яких СТІЙКІСТЬ метафорично переосмислюється.

Перспектива майбутніх досліджень - розвідка поняттєвого і валоративного елементів концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ через аналогічну корпусну вибірку.

Summary

Stepanov V. Image component of the RESILIENCE concept (corpus research of the American discourse)

The article is dedicated to researching RESILIENCE as a socially relevant concept in the American community mind. The RESILIENCE concept is regarded as a mental dynamic information unit whose verbal name represents a common empirical sum of individual contacts with the material world, describes attitude to it and fixes social progress.

The research is implemented within a 3-layer concept structure: notion, image, values. The current paper discusses the image component. It is analyzed via the methodology of conceptual metaphor by Lakoff G. and Johnson M. in the American discourse sample. The latter is a 150-context set from the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA). Each context contains the resilience lexeme as a name of the RESILIENCE concept itself. All contexts derive form 77 authentic American sources of academic and journalistic character.

Associating images of the RESILIENCE concept are defined due to the order metaphorization parameters by Tatsenko N. (the discrete, dimensional, spatial and perceptive ones). These parameters are used in normal and extended modes.

The research resulted in obtaining 30 conceptual metaphors: RESILIENCE is POSSESSING, CONTROLLING or PROTECTING OBJECT; TOOL; NEED; SKILLS; PHYSICAL BODY; VARYING or COMPLEX OBJECT; DETAIL; ACTION; FORCE; PLACE; BRANCH; MOVING OBJECT; THING; CONTENT; CONTAINER; INTERACTING, PERCEIVING, ANALYZING or IMAGINING OBJECT; AGREEMENT; FEELING, ADMIRING or SHOWING OBJECT; PRODUCT; HUMAN; MACHINE; OPPONENT.

Sorted by metaphorization parameters, all images are illustrated with contexts. Images are actualized via semantically valent adjacent and non-adjacent collocations of the resilience lexeme (name of the RESILIENCE concept) and other words. They identify mental associations. Due to them, the RESILIENCE concept is reconsidered.

Future prospects are to research notion and values of the RESILIENCE concept. The corpus sample will be the same.

Постановка проблеми

Аналіз останніх публікацій. За повномасштабного вторгнення на територію України, перед нашою державою постають серйозні виклики: вистояти, перемогти, відновитися. Відтак, стають релевантними дослідження суспільно значущих феноменів, зокрема соці-альної стійкості.

Тема стійкості неодноразово розглядалася фахівцями різних галузей у контексті резонансних подій, наприклад пандемії COVID-19 [1; 2; 3]. Утім, соціальна стійкість України загалом і в лінгвістичному ракурсі зокрема лише починає досліджуватися. Цим зумовлена актуальність дослідження.

Стійкість як динамічно мінливий феномен існує і ментально опрацьовується у формі відповідного концепту. Виступаючи єдністю поняттєвого, перцептивно-образного та ціннісно-вало- ративного елементів [4, с. 20-30], концепти реконструюються на матеріалі дискурсу, компактно поданого в його міні-моделі - корпусі. Отже, нами ініціюється дослідження концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ через корпусний інструментарій.

Під час вибору корпусів варто зважати на їхню рейтин- говість. Найбільш авторитетними є Корпус сучасної англійської мови американського варіанту COCA [5] та Британський національний корпус BNC [6]. З іншого боку, наша розвідка є пілотною, тому спочатку застосуємо методику на англомовному (США) матеріалі, а в майбутніх студіях - на українському ресурсі. Це не лише додатково апробує методику, але й дозволить порівняти концепт СТІЙКІСТЬ у двох відмінних лінгво- культурах - американській та українській.

Водночас, реконструкція концептів через три вищезгадані компоненти є кропіткою. Висновки кожного з трьох етапів дослідження подаються як окремий результат - поняття, образ, цінності. У межах цієї публікації ми зупинимося на образі концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ, а поняття і цінності висвітлимо в нових статтях.

До речі, образний компонент активно вивчався в концептах суспільно-політичних подій. Наприклад, розглядалися перцеп- тивні особливості концептів МАЙДАН [7], BREXIT [8], ЕКОНОМІЧНА КРИЗА [9].

Таким чином, обираємо корпус COCA для розвідки образного складника концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ.

Об'єкт дослідження - концепт СТІЙКІСТЬ, предмет - аналіз його перцептивно-образного елемента.

Мета дослідження - вивести концептуальні метафори як акуталізатори образу концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ. Мета досягається вирішенням завдань:

1. Надати власну дефініцію концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ;

2. Репрезентувати методику дослідження;

3. Описати хід розвідки та її результати.

Дефініція. Концепт розуміється нами як динамічно еволюційна система. Це перекликається з надбаннями Харківської [10, с. 45] і Сумської [11, с. 137] шкіл когнітивної лінгвістики. Відтак, з нашої точки зору, концепт СТІЙКІСТЬ є ментальним динамічним утворенням-інформацією, вербальне ім'я якого репрезентує колективну емпіричну єдність індивідуальних контактів із матеріальним світом, описує ставлення до нього та фіксує прогрес спільноти.

Методика дослідження

Образний складник концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ вивчатимемо за методикою концептуальної метафори Лакоффа Дж. і Джонсона М. [12], а також параметрів порядку метафоризації Таценко Н. В. [11, с. 246-248]. Для студій укладаємо суцільно-випадкову вибірку 150 контекстів із корпусу COCA (зі словом resilience як іменем СТІЙКОСТІ) [13]. Вони походять із 77 наукових і публіцистичних джерел. Цю вибірку проаналізуємо на предмет встановлення концептуальних метафор СТІЙКОСТІ.

Хід дослідження та його результати

Параметри порядку метафоризації визначають асоціативне переосмислення концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ крізь призму інших концептів. Так, дискретність (вказівка на точно обрамлений предмет) продукує метафору СТІЙКІСТЬ є ОБ'ЄКТ ВЛАСНОСТІ. Власником виступає окрема людина (personal) або колектив (social):

In the event that calamities strike, it would mitigate their effects by enhancing personal and social resilience and preparedness (4).

Метафору актуалізують хвилясто підкреслені лексеми, що валентно поєднані із пунктирно маркованим словом resilience (ім'я концепту СТІЙКІСТЬ). В дужках зазначений номер концепту з корпусної вибірки [13].

Колективом-власником виступає макро- чи мікрогрупа. Можливе виділення проміжних рівнів власності:

I met hundreds ofpeople, listened to their perceptions and helped a number of them tell their stories through poetry. I learned many lessons, but what sticks out in my mind most often is the creativity and resjlience of the humanspirit (65).

How well prepared is the United States for this kind offight? This is at least in part a question of national or societal resilience (26).

У першому випадку подано вищий рівень власності (людство), у другому - суспільний і національний (держава), у третьому - локальний (громада).

Власниками СТІЙКОСТІ можуть бути й окремі класи осіб, диференційовані за віковою (children, youth), гендерною (women) або сімейнорольовою (young people, parents) ознаками:

Additionally, children and youth's resilience in face of distressing and violent circumstances warrants further research (119).

We passed a dozen packages of the bones of people who had died in the shrine. The room had been full but these were the only remains now. The grounds were beautiful reflecting the resilience of these women (49).

Further research investigating the youth-parent relationship is essential, as well as ongoing development and evaluation of interventions to innovate relational resilience and coping strategies for both ypungpepple and parents (123).

Перебуваючи у власності, дискретна СТІЙКІСТЬ зазнає управлінського впливу під дією певних залежних чинників. Спрацьовують метафори СТІЙКІСТЬ є ОБ'ЄКТ КОНТРОЛЮ та ЗАХИСТУ:

Resilience is dependent upon personal characteristics (141).

Earth abides. We need to preserve resilience and integrity of the biosphere we live in to enhance our own survival prospects (85).

Крім того, дискретність об'єктивує управління з іншого ракурсу: не лише СТІЙКІСТЬ контролюється, але й вона сама контролює об'єкт або впливає на нього. Реалізується метафора СТІЙКІСТЬ є ІНСТРУМЕНТ:

He understood that one mistake could put this game in the loss column and he embraced that opportunity with enthusiasm and resilience (69).

Під час керування може виникнути необхідність у застосуванні СТІЙКОСТІ, тому з ІНСТРУМЕНТА вона переходить у ПОТРЕБУ:

That will require a high level of psychological resilience and tolerance for risk and change, as well as a strong education that equips them to learn how to study (111).

Управлінська дія орудно виконується також через нав- ченість, вправність. Проявляється метафора СТІЙКІСТЬ є НАВИЧКИ:

They will be taught business, management, leadership, communication with resilience skills (64).

Інший вектор осмислення СТІЙКОСТІ пропонує димен- сіальність, тобто вимірність. СТІЙКІСТЬ розуміється як ФІЗИЧНЕ ТІЛО з певними умовами існування (nature). Механічно контактуючи з іншими об'єктами (impact), воно зазнає деформацій або змін:

Questions have to be asked about the nature of social resilience (16).

Contemporary approaches to migration studies have much to offer this analysis but have rarely asked how migration processes impact social resilience and environmental change (23).

Як результат, деформації чи зміни СТІЙКОСТІ можуть бути різного характеру: або в кращий (enhance), або в гірший бік (diminish). Тобто, СТІЙКІСТЬ є ВАРІАТИВНИМ ОБ'ЄКТОМ:

Migration has a potential to enhance social resilience by providing new opportunities and experiences. It also has the ability to diminish resilience by weakening social structures and access to natural resources (10).

Варіації можуть мати різний ступінь прояву. Можлива градація, що репрезентовано лексемами degree, level:

I mean the amazing thing about the Congolese people is their degree of resilience and that they have been through this kind of stuff in the past (79).

No doubt, reasonable levels of confidence and emotional resilience help, but I think scientific education might do more to ease what is a very big transition: from learning what other people once discovered to making your own discoveries (93).

Поряд із цим, варіативна шкала СТІЙКОСТІ висвітлюється в інтенсивності її дій. Відтак, СТІЙКІСТЬ може проявлятися м'яко (soft) або сильно (strong):

The word itself advocates a sort of soft resilience to withstand the forces of nature, not of brick or reinforced concrete but assembled out of various objects, both natural and artificial, which are then integrated into a natural system (36).

Southeast Asia's largest economy, Indonesia, has exhibited some of the strongest resilience as its growing consumer class was little impacted by the debt problems plaguing much of the rest of the globe (77).

Водночас, дименсіальність комбінується з дискретністю. СТІЙКІСТЬ як окремий об'єкт осмислюється за своєю структурою, тому ідентифікується як КОМПЛЕКСНИЙ ОБ'ЄКТ (set) або його ДЕТАЛЬ (component):

Consistent with the concept of resilience as a set of social characteristics and a process of adaptive behavior, they describe resilience before as well as during and after an adverse event (149).

He notes that social resilience is a key component in how societies adapt to environmental change and recognizes the central connection of ecological and social resilience through human dependence on ecosystems (2).

З іншого ракурсу, СТІЙКІСТЬ вимірюється як ДІЯ (process) або СИЛА (strength, capacity), що впливають на інші об'єкти:

СТІЙКІСТЬ генерується як продукт в тілі неістоти (одяг правильного розміру - to tailor resilience) або істоти (доглянута дитина - to nurture resilience):

Whatever the business, personal resilience can be tailored to any situation (133).

Resilience to stress can be nurtured to help people face the manifold challenges of the modern lifestyle - both in employee's work and home life (132).

Поряд з пасивним впливом на ПРОДУКТ, маємо й активну дію: СТІЙКІСТЬ сама продукує щось. Іншими словами, відбувається персоніфікація СТІЙКОСТІ (уподібнення діям людини). Спрацьовує метафора СТІЙКІСТЬ є ІСТОТА.
