The Old Slavic Digenis Akritis: free retelling or rhetorical translation?
Digenis Akrit, according to André Vaillant, as a free retelling of one of the Greek versions of the poem. Its distinguishing features from any extant Greek text and especially from its closest relative, the highly romanticized Grottaferrata version.
