CHINESE BIRD AND FLOWER PAINTING (HUA-NIAO): ENCRYPTED MEANINGS

Sun Chanlun Postgraduate Student of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, Minsk, Republic of Belarus

The article is devoted to the study of the symbolic meaning of the hua-niao paintings (bird and flower painting) - one of the main genres of the traditional Chinese painting. The paper substantiates the idea that many pictures of the genre in question contain peculiar puzzles. The connection between the allegorical meanings of images and the specifics of the Chinese language is revealed. The article discusses the symbolism of the most common images in the genre of hua-niao - the images of birds (crane, duck, heron, rooster, magpie, quail, swallow).
