Abstract

This paper is based on the results of a four-year Global Capstone Design Workshop in order to find eco-friendly, energy-saving methods in our daily lives and to develop and improve them. In particular, selecting topics based on practical methods for Global Capstone Design will be the main focus for this research to give directions and implement ideas.

Исследование методов по улучшению тем, основанное на анализе Global Capstone Design 2015-18 годов

Эта статья основана на результатах работы в воркшопе. На протяжении четырех лет, Global Capstone Design Workshop, целью которого было найти экологически чистые и энергосберегающие методы и технологии в нашей повседневной жизни, доработать и улучшить их. В частности, выбор тематик, основанных на практических методах для Global Capstone Design, будет основным направлением для этого исследования, в котором будут даваться указания и реализоваться идеи.

Introduction

This study is intended to analyze the performance of 'the Global Capstone Design' conducted over four years from 2015 to 2018 and to present detailed operational methods and newly suggest subjects that can be developed into a more efficient and productive way for 'the Global Capstone Design' in the implementation process.

Analysis of the effect and the problem of four years of practice and performance

The operational results of `the Global Capstone Design' from 2015 to 2018 will be studied to identify weaknesses and improvements and use them as a way to find more efficient and operational methods for future developments and to derive practical ideas, especially focusing on the selection of topics and their evolution.

Existing operational method

Basic direction. Through combined research with humanities and social sciences (including art and arts), it is possible to come up with more diverse and creative ideas. Therefore, through a combination of various majors to be implemented, `the Global Capstone Design' will be able to generate more practical and advanced results by taking advantage of each major. In addition, it will be an opportunity to recognize the importance of eco-friendly design once again through 'the Global Capstone Design' workshop, and to improve the design ability and thinking method of the best experts based on fresh ideas from students.

The goal is also to achieve educational achievements that can set the will and goals for growth as a person with thinking ability of international eyes through a joint workshop with Russian students.

Korean and Russian students form a team altogether. Korean students majoring in architecture and Russian studies will be the main members of the team and students from various majors will participate in each team. In addition, Russian students are co-hosted and conducted by each team to come up with novel ideas for convergence and international cooperation of various studies.

Selection of topics

The selection of topics was carried out in three types:

ф Type that presents the challenges to be addressed-1 (2015-2017)

The university, which is the subject, presents students with the type or subject of ecofriendly problems to solve in the fields of cities, architecture, and environment, and encourages students to find solutions to detailed problems.

Types that raise eco-friendly issues and infer solutions (2015-2017) This is a way to find a solution to a problem in a field of urban, architectural, or environmental problems by students, and to come up with appropriate solutions, so that each student or team member can discuss the issue and guess the solution through discussions among the members of each team.

Type of raising problems and analogy for solutions in normal life (2018)

Analysis of the strength and the weakness of the existing operation

Cooperation with Pacific University. Cooperation with the Pacific National University is not a big problem, but there are difficulties in discussing the workshop in advance. To secure dormitories for my students was major difficult problem because of the academic year schedule of PNU and are restricted from using external hotels in connection with costs. There is not much difficulty in working with the PNU.

Selection of subject

As mentioned above, from 2015 to 2017, the questions and ideas were all presented to students. They were trying to find out eco-friendly and energy-saving measures, which often led to conflicts between students of PNU and Sun Moon University due to cultural differences. In addition, the scope of the subject was limited to eco-friendly features, which resulted in a simultaneous occurrence of difficult access by students. The selection of subjects also often fails to reach an agreement with the students of Sun Moon University because Russian students tend to be more specific opinions for the topics that match the reality of Russia and tend to deal with urban and non-architectural issues.

In 2018, they were asked to refrain from a wide range of topics, including cities and buildings, as well as environmental issues, to find ideas for inventions that were practical and inconvenient in real life or that had demands for improvement. After returning to Korea, he developed the results under the guidance of a patent attorney and applied for the patent.

Workshop process

The workshop is being held in Korea for one-day training and in Russia for five nights and six days. For three days, the university and Russian students team up to present solutions to the topic by developing discussions and ideas on the subject. In particular, in Russia, there is a special lecture given by a professor of tree specialists, and in the middle of the workshop, there is a consulting session among professors of tree specialists. Finally, the students are presenting their organized content and giving prizes for each content.

New operation method and Selection of Subject

Although the selection and schedule of students are judged to be possible without any major problems in the existing management system so far, it is necessary to improve the problems caused by selecting the subject and working with Russian students. Therefore, in this study, I will study the scope and selection of topics and how to operate workshops by team by analyzing existing four times' topic and identifying problems.

Selection of Subject and Direction of the improvement

Through the analysis of existing subject matter in the fourth round from 2015 in the first year to 2017 in the third year, the subjects were limited to eco-friendly and environmentally friendly, energy-saving designs in cities and buildings, and Russian students and Korean students selected the topics through discussion. However, in the fourth year of 2018, the focus was on environmental and energy saving rather than limiting the scope to urban and construction, but in some cases, the theme was selected only as improvement required for daily life. The topics which are claassified into the related field of concern from the 1st to the 4th year are as follows.

Derivation and Improvement of Ideas

In January 2019, the Korean Intellectual Property Office applied for all six patents by developing the subject of the fourth year, 'the Global Capstone Design'. This is an opportunity to ensure that practical problems are greatly helpful in applying them in practice. Although some of the subjects changed the subject due to the lack of effectiveness in the patent application process, it is an good opportunity for students to develop a sense that their ideas through 'the Global Capstone Design' can be linked to real life.

For this reason, it is deemed necessary to present topics in 2019 in an itemized way, and to develop ideas through mutual discussion, considering the differences between Russian students and Korean students' opinions at a Russian workshop, and the difficulties in selecting themes and enhancing solutions to real problems.

Therefore, the scope of the agenda should be the real-life problems and improvements, but it would be environmentally friendly, energy-saving or energy-producing methods, if possible, and would be switched to finding practical solutions such as improvement of secondary convenience.

Any inventive ideas, which are effective to improve the inconven- iency of anything in the daily life, will be the most adoptive for the subject.

The conclusion

As a result of this study I got the following conclusions:

The first: There are no major problems in the matter of the cooperation with PNU. But there are differences between Russia and Korea's realistic culture and students' approach in selecting the subject, which has caused conflicts in the joint research process.

The second: In order to be productive and strengthen student cooperation, it was confirmed that it was much more efficient for students to select topics and find solutions within a given range of problems by itemizing issues that could be considered and addressed in person rather than through the process of finding problems and selecting topics for themselves. Those subjects in the range of `Area of application' on the above table will be considerable for the first selection.
