The literary process in England was greatly influenced by deep social changes of the first decades of the 20th century as well as by the new tendencies in English art. The wars and revolutions of the time brought to general crisis of the 1920s and economic depression of the 1930s, which sharpened the relations of classes in England. Two trends dominated the development of English literature: Realism (John Galsworthy, Bernard Shaw, Richard Aldington) and Modernism (James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, D. H. Lawrence).

Realism was aimed at depicting life and all person's conflicts through a critical investigation into the complex interaction of the social and the psychic, the general and the individual in the person. Realism, a mode of writing that gives the impression of recording or 'reflecting' faithfully an actual way of life. Despite the radical attempts of modernism to displace the realist emphasis on external reality (notably in the movements of expressionism and surrealism), realism survived as a major current within 20th-century fiction, sometimes under the label of neorealism.

Modernism is a term used to distinguish early experimental 20th-century writing from the narrative, descriptive and rational frameworks and conventions of 19th-century writing. The Spanish critic and philosopher Jose Ortega y Gasset (1883--1955) felt the 'modernism' took us towards chaos and dehumanisation, away from the 'all too human elements predominant in romantic and naturalistic production'. Modernism, a general term applied retrospectively to the wide range of experimental and avant-garde trends in the literature (and other arts) of the early 20th century, including Symbolism, Futurism, Expressionism, Imagism, Vorticism, and Surrealism, along with the innovations of unaffiliated writers. Modernist writing is predominantly cosmopolitan, and often expresses a sense of urban cultural dislocation, along with an awareness of new anthropological and psychological theories. Its favored techniques of juxtaposition and multiple point of view challenge the reader to reestablish a coherence of meaning from fragmentary forms. In English, its major landmarks are Joyce's Ulysses and Eliot's The Waste Land (both 1922).

In Ulysses, Joyce created a completely new style of writing which allows the reader to move inside the minds of the characters, and presents their thoughts and feelings in a continuous stream, breaking all the usual rules of description, speech and punctuation. This style is known as 'interior monologue' or 'stream of consciousness', and it has had a powerful influence on the work of many other writers (V. Woolf “Mrs. Dalloway”, D. Richardson “Pilgrimage” etc).

Australian English

Any visitor from abroad who thinks Australian is simply a weird variant of English/American will soon have a few surprises. For a start many Australians do not even speak Australian - they speak Italian, Lebanese, Vietnamese, Turkish or Greek. Those who do speak the native tongue are liable to lose you in a strange collection of Australian words. Some have completely different meanings in Australia than they have in English-speaking countries north of the equator; some commonly used words have been shortened beyond recognition. Others are derived from Aboriginal languages, or from the slang used by early convict settlers.

So, Australian English is predominantly British English, and especially from the London area. R's are dropped after vowels, but are often inserted between two words ending and beginning with vowels. The vowels reflect a strong "Cockney" influence: The long a (/ei/) tends towards a long i (/ai/), so pay sounds like pie to an American ear. The long i (/ai/), in turn, tends towards oi, so cry sounds like croy. Ow sounds like it starts with a short a (/oa/). Other vowels are less dramatically shifted.

Even some rhyming slang has survived into Australian English: Butcher's means look (butcher's hook); hit and miss means piss; loaf means head (loaf of bread): Noah's ark means shark; Richard the third means turd, and so on.

Like American English has absorbed numerous American Indian words, Australian English has absorbed many Aboriginal words:

billibong -- watering hole

coolabah -- a type of tree

*corroboree -- a ceremony

nulla-nulla -- a club

*wallaby -- small kangaroo

*wombat - a small marsupial s

*woomera - a weapon

*wurley -- a simple shelter …not to mention such ubiquitous words as kangaroo, boomerang, and koala!

Aboriginal Kriol is a new language which has developed since European arrival in Australia. It is spoken across northern Australia and has become the “native” language of many young Aboriginal people. It contains many English words, but the pronunciation and grammatical usage are along Aboriginal lines, the meaning is often different, and the spelling is phonetic. For example, the English sentence “He was amazed” becomes “I bin luk kwesjinmak” in Kriol. There are a number of generic terms which Aboriginal people use to describe themselves, and these vary according to the region. The most common of these is Koori, used for the people of south-east Australia.

-проанализировать жизненный путь и творчество основателя «века джаза» Ф.С. Фитцджеральда;

-сравнить творчество Фитцджеральда с другими писателями США;

-определить жанр рассказа в творчестве писателя;

-определить жанр романа в творчестве писателя;

Culture is an essential part of conflict and conflict resolution. Cultures are like underground rivers that run through our lives and relationships, giving us messages that shape our perceptions, attributions, judgments, and ideas of self and other. Though cultures are powerful, they are often unconscious, influencing conflict and attempts to resolve conflict in imperceptible ways.

Cultures are more than language, dress, and food customs. Cultural groups may share race, ethnicity, or nationality, but they also arise from cleavages of generation, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, ability and disability, political and religious affiliation, language, and gender - to name only a few.

Two things are essential to remember about cultures: they are always changing, and they relate to the symbolic dimension of life. The symbolic dimension is the place where we are constantly making meaning and enacting our identities. Cultural messages from the groups we belong to give us information about what is meaningful or important, and who we are in the world and in relation to others - our identities.

Cultural messages, simply, are what everyone in a group knows that outsiders do not know. They are the water fish swim in, unaware of its effect on their vision. They are a series of lenses that shape what we see and don't see, how we perceive and interpret, and where we draw boundaries. In shaping our values, cultures contain starting points and currencies. Starting points are those places it is natural to begin, whether with individual or group concerns, with the big picture or particularities. Currencies are those things we care about that influence and shape our interactions with others.

Due to the fact that each culture is individual and its values are different from other cultures the intercultural conflicts may arise. It is very important to be able to manage such cultural conflicts. This problem we are going to solve in our work.

This story tells us about young writer, who got into unpleasant situation of having meal with a very shameless lady, who used his tact to spend all his money.

The story has a straight line narrative presentation; the events are described by the narrator as they occur, in chronological order. The story has an exposition (the narrator tells us the circumstances in which he lived), the initial incident (one of the hero's readers - a lady - asked for a little luncheon at a restaurant), the complication (the lady orders more and more expensive food), the climax (the lady takes a huge peach and the huge bill comes), and the denouement (the narrator sees the lady afterwards and realizes that he has his revenge at last, the lady is fat and huge herself).

The characters of the story are both vivid and interesting. We can regard them as type characters: the man who is too young to say `no' to woman, and not young woman who uses it. We feel pity for the writer and we are surprised together with him with the lady's appetite.

The narration is hold by the first-person narrator, who is the protagonist. The `I' narrator makes us see all his emotions; we believe him and feel ourselves the participants of his story.

The tone of the story is rather casual and familiar. The author tells his story to the reader like to his old friend. Although the atmosphere in the restaurant is rather tense and full of horror expectation, in the end of the story it turns to be humorous. The lady has grown very fat!

The irony is in the title of the story: “luncheon”, because instead of the little luncheon in the restaurant the lady ate the most expensive food without any limitations. We can see that she simply robbed the narrator.

The main conflict of the story is the problem of the young writer: whether to explain to the shameless lady the fact that he does not have money or to stay quiet and proud and pay for the bill staying with no money. Unfortunately, the writer is too young to find the right way in this situation and he quietly pays for the bill.

According to all the analyzed details we may pick out the authors message: everyone can get into a stupid situation, it is very important to find the right way out; but the shameless people always get their lesson, like the lady with huge appetite for others money has grown very fat.

Poems

Look At the Sky

Days go by so slowly,

But are they long or are they short?

It's better to live always

With someone's love in someone's heart.

Look at the sky,

Look at the heavens…

Don't say you are mine,

Moreover forever…

Just look at the sky

Or higher about this.

I am at that height

And there my love is.

Don't be scared of the rain

When we are apart.

It's the love that goes away

From the sky and from my broken heart.

Home Sweet Home

What an interesting question:

Where should I go?

I have lots of the obsessions,

But I want to know

Which country is the best&

Culture and traditions…

Where is the place to rest?

Where's the place for the ambitions?

We can choose a lot of places,

Every place is so amazing!

There are so lots of races,

Some are patient, some are crazy!

No matter east or west,

I can tell you: home's the best!
