В диссертации впервые в украинском и зарубежном литературоведении предпринято сравнительно-типологическое исследование большой прозы Д. Г. Лоуренса и В. Винниченко. Работа посвящена выявлению типологических соответствий и отличий в осмыслении гендерной проблематики в произведениях украинского и британского авторов. В работе представлены методологические и теоретические позиции феминистической и гендерной теорий, дан ряд литературоведческих концепций, посвященных интерпретации проблем пола в творчестве Владимира Винниченко, репрезентировано рецепцию творчества Дэвида Лоуренса в британской гендерно ориентированной литературной критике. Предложено реализацию сравнительного подхода к анализу гендерной проблематики в творчестве Лоуренса и Винниченко в аспектах нарратологии, антропологии, персонажной типологии и интертекстуальности.

The following dissertation compasses comparative and typological research of D. H. Lawrence and V. Vynnychenko's fiction in Ukrainian and foreign literature for the first time. The thesis is aimed to detect typological similarities and differences in the attempt to understand gender problems in the works of Ukrainian and British authors. This research work represents methodological and theoretical approaches of feminist and gender theories. Before starting to speak of D. Lawrence and V. Vynnychenko's fiction in the aspect of sex problems it is necessary to figure out and state the range of literature and critics researches of the leading representatives of western humanitarian science who state the main basis of ideas on gender theory.

The following thesis represents the views on the problems of sex in the works of Volodymyr Vynnychenko's from the point of view of diaspora and national Ukrainian studies. Among the researchers of Volodymyr Vynnychenko's works who analyzed his prose heritage in the aspect of gender relations are American and Ukrainian scientists Andrew Kaspryk and Volodymyr Panchenko. Andrew Kaspryk analyses the works of of Vynnychenko in particular novels “Honest to Yourself” and “Snub-nosed Mephistopheles' Diary” in the aspect of Nietzscheanism highlighting the priority of questions of sex in the work of Ukrainian author. Volodymyr Panchenko analyses the works of Volodymyr Vynnychenko in the wide context of the end and the beginning of the century turning his attention to the problems of sex. The researcher claims that many Vynnychenko's works written in 1906-1920 sharp social contrasts are substituted by moral and psychological, and moral and philosophical problems that included popular among readers and writers problem of sex.

The investigation of literature and critical writings on the works of D. H. Lawrence showed that during different periods of its development western literature critics would have controversial views on the novel heritage of the writer changing its misunderstanding and blaming to critical estimation and approval.

The thesis propounds the realization of comparative approach to the analysis of gender problems in the work of Lawrence and Vynnychenko in narratology, anthropology, character typology and intertextuality aspects. The comparison of gender interaction in the novels of D. H. Lawrence “Lady Chatterlay's Lover” and “Sons and Lovers”, V. Vynnychenko “Honest to Yourself” and “Snub-nosed Mephistopheles' Diary” found the peculiarities of major concepts which regulate intercharacter relations within the fiction entire: marriage/adultery, devotedness/betrayal, reproductive function, jealousy, prostitution, sympathy/antipathy, maturity/infantilism. Each of the novelists represented his eccentric example of intersexual communication.
