French and Ukrainian poetry of the first half of the XXth century (creativestyles of Frenchmen P. Reverdi, M. Jacob, R, G, Cadu, R. Desnos and Ukrainians B.-I. Antonych, Ye. Malanyuk, O. Stefanovych, O. Olzhych) is characterized by a common tendency to general simplification of syntactic constructions. Short monosyllable sentences are most often not united by the general context, by which fact they cause growth of emotional information capacity of the poetical work.

In terms of vocabulary poems of the first half of the XXth century are characterized by conciseness of descriptions for the sake of wider „mobilization” of semantic resources. The words with weakenedsemantic and functional role are neglected. Such features are common to styles of French poets M. Jacob, R. Keno, P. Valeri, P. Eluard, R. G. Kadu, etc. and Ukrainian ones - P. Tychyna, Ye. Malanyuk, S. Hordynskyy, O. Olzhych, etc.

In the context of linguistic problems, the synthesis of arts (poetry - with music and painting) is researched, synthetic ways of achieving musical and painting effects in a poetic piece are considered. Thus, some genres and forms which had belonged exceptionally to music since times immemorial, enter both Ukrainian and French poetry of the first half of the XXth century. Among early works by P. Tychyna we come across poems written in the genre of theme with variations ("Arfamy, arfamy...", "Zakucheryavylysya khmary...", "Hayi shumlyat...", "Des nadkhodyla vesna...", "Z kokhannya plakav ya...", etc.). In terms of theme and composition P. Eluard's poem "On ne peut te connaitre" meets the norms of sonata form. Ye. Malanyuk's piece "The Fifth Symphony" is written according to the laws of sonata form, as it is characteristic of genre symphonies in music.

The phenomenon of synaesthesia became the dominant feature of Ukrainian and French poetry of the period in question. Poets showed their talent in creating visual and sound images, proved unrestricted possibilities of artistic word and its capacity to synthesize elements of cognate kinds of art. This is most brightly represented in creativity of P. Tychyna, P. Eluard, S. Hordynskyy, P. Reverdi.
