In the dissertation the process of formation of Ukrainian national school in Transcarpathia after incorporation of the region into Czechoslovakia (1919) is analyzed and generalized. The autonomous rights of Transcarpathian Ukrainians, supported by St. Germain treaty and declared in Czechoslovakian constitution, enabled the process of revival of national culture and education which under the Austro-Hungarian rule was totally magyarized. The educational policy of Czechoslovakia is studied, as well as the character of interaction of local pedagogues with Ukrainian refugees in the struggle for Ukrainian national school, the formation of forms, sense and methods of education is considered, a special attention is paid to the raising of school students. The study has revealed a particular contribution into the national school formation made by writers and teachers V. Birchak, V. Pachovsky, I. Pankevych, Mariyka Pidhirianka whose pedagogical heritage was earlier concealed or depicted as "Ukrainian bourgeois nationalism". The pedagogical views of these refugee pedagogues are analyzed as well as their books in the Ukrainian language and literature, the history of Transcarpathia, books for primary schools, other literature for school. Their work in the regional department of education is considered, the experience of pedagogical work in the sphere of gimnasium and primary education as well as training of young writers is generalized, their cultural and educational activity is analyzed, the literary works of the refugee writers with pedagogical ideas are studied.
